2/ Between Lucent and Rockwell, I would chose a Lucent, but USR is the way to go, as far as I am concerned, regardless of what chipset it employes.3/ Line performance for a modem is also given by its analog interface components very cheap modems may not work well, even if they share the same chipset with a more expensive one. Most current generation modems perform the same way on good phone lines if you have really bad phone lines, nothing beats an external USR Courier. ![]() ![]() 1/ Newer USR modems use a Lucent chipset some older USR modems (14.4 winmodems) used Rockwell most common USR modems use a 80188/80186 for supervisor and a TI DSP for datapump, with some custom chips for glue logic.
